This is a good, modern claret that has lots of flavour, but not a lot of structure. It has lots of fruit but not much tannin, so this is likely to appeal to the masses rather than dedicated claret heads. It is over-priced for what it is: there are lots of examples of better claret at four quid a bottle less.

Ch Lagrave Cissan Haut-Medoc 2005

3.5 stars

A nice Medoc but not exceptional. There were lots of sediments but the bottle does come with the warning about that. Best to decant it if you really want the last drop.

Fruity nose and full bodied. Smooth tannins and well rounded flavour.

But I was expecting more!

Stable bordeaux, nice fruity initial taste but the finish was like sucking hard pebbles. The naked bordeauxs do not offer a good alternative to over-priced supermarket ones. This was OK, but nothing special.

A nice wine with lots of toast (you can't miss it), but 2005 should be, a fair bit of sediment but I don't mind that so much.

Took an age to open up, but once it did it was a decent example of relatively cheap Bordeaux. A lot of sediment, so decant carefully. Slightly stony initial feel, which may be to your taste or not. Decent stuff, however if I was going to spend this price I'd probably not go for Bordeaux.
