What's this about?

The fastest way for us to help you find the wines you'll love (and avoid the wines you won't ) is for you to spend 30 seconds to tell us about your wine tastes. We use these answers, together with your wine ratings to build a detailed profile of your personal tastes. We match your taste profile to our wines taste profile to find the wines that match. Even if it's a grape you don't know, from a place you don't know, made by a person you have never heard of. For example, if you tell us that you like Rioja, we have an Argentinean Malbec that you will adore. And a Spanish Grenache that will blow your socks off.

Hi Stephen, we're holding a SA wine tasting evening for our local village wine club in a couple of weeks and we'll be tasting your Arabella Cab Sauv and Arabella Viognier, any suggestions for food to accompany?

I'll write up some tasting notes and a bit about each Winemaker so if there's anything you think I should include, intersting facts, funny stories welcome.

Best Regards Frankie

Stephen's Story

"My greatest pleasure has been to start my winery from scratch, with the help of my wife and two children Nicky and Jamie."

"If I had my life over, I would ask for nothing more than to be involved with my two passions - as I am now - wine and horses.

My greatest pleasure has been to start Arabella, my winery, from scratch in 2006. With the help of my children Nicky and Jamie, it's turned into a real family business where everyone is completely dedicated.

My family owned a wine farm and cellar when I was growing up, and at the age of 17, before I went off to the army, my mother put me to work in the cellar. I absolutely loved it - and my mother arranged for me to do a one year student course at Geisenheim (the home of a well-known research and education centre in oenology and viticulture). So winemaking was something I knew I wanted to do from a young age...

I love the creativity involved in being a winemaker. Although the weather can play a role, every step taken, from the vineyard, through to the cellar, to the bottling, will affect the outcome of the wine. It's vital to have a very clear idea of what the outcome should be, and the steps needed in the process, to achieve the desired result.

Are we a green winery? Yes, very. All our waste water is used to irrigate our pastures, no detergents are used, and grape skins and stalks are converted into compost and used in the vineyard."

Stephen under the Naked spotlight

"If you were to compare yourself to a bottle of wine Stephen, what would it be and why?"

Stephen: "A Bordeaux. Takes time to mature, lean and elegant with great structure and substance!"

"What do you like doing when you don't have your work hat on?"

Stephen: "Sitting on my veranda after a hot summer's day with my family, being refreshed by a crisp bottle of Sauvignon Blanc."

"What's the best bottle of wine you've ever tasted? (excluding your own!)"

Stephen: "It's difficult to say. It is very often the moment as much as the wine"

"What's your finest wine-making moment?"

Stephen: "My awards - getting a Veritas Double Gold for a 2003 Shiraz, and a Michelangelo Double Gold for my 2007 Arabella Shiraz."
