Jose's Story

"I was exposed to the world of wine from a very young age – and knew very early on that winemaking was a profession I wanted to get in to.

I work with an absolutely fantastic team at Domaine Sainte Eugènie, with Patrick Brignolli acting as our Communications Director, and Hervé Gantier running the Estate – allowing me to get on with what I do best, making wine!

Before joining Patrick and Hervé here in Les Corbières, I used to be chief winemaker and director of one of the biggest Meursault regions in Burgundy. It was time for a new challenge!

Spicy aftertaste. Initially quite watery but then develops a rush of pepery spice and lemon.

The label on the back of the bottle says, "...lively red and black fruit aromas, earthy undertones and exotic, spicy highlights. Silky tannins support a finely structured palate, softened by a touch of toasty vanilla oak". OK. I am only halfway through the bottle...red berry flavours evident, still struggling to find the black, I shall keep looking.. As I have read about the earthiness I have found it, it is definitely an undertone.
In my own words, this is a wonderful, gutsy red, bags of character, juicy fruit (assorted), spicy notes. A good food red, not the easiest to drink unaccompanied, although with perseverence I may convince myself. The vanilla oak is well integrated rather than overwhelming and after draining the glass the last remaining sixteenth of a teaspoonful emits a wonderful vanilla scent. Although approachable on first popping the cork, opens out given time, well worth the effort. Go for it!
