What's this about?

The fastest way for us to help you find the wines you'll love (and avoid the wines you won't ) is for you to spend 30 seconds to tell us about your wine tastes. We use these answers, together with your wine ratings to build a detailed profile of your personal tastes. We match your taste profile to our wines taste profile to find the wines that match. Even if it's a grape you don't know, from a place you don't know, made by a person you have never heard of. For example, if you tell us that you like Rioja, we have an Argentinean Malbec that you will adore. And a Spanish Grenache that will blow your socks off.

Walter says...

I am an independent wine consultant fascinated by wines from especially indigenous grape varieties. In my daily work, I am always searching for interesting, unique and quirky wines, but my job doesn't stop there. Once I have found something I want to put it into the spotlights and introduce it to other wine lovers. And that's where Naked Wines come in: they dare to take on wine from grape varieties that don't always roll off the tongue, but still make a great impact on it. Let's enjoy the great unknown!

Hi Matt and Sam, I'm Francesca's "other" half, we've provisionally booked our village hall for Sunday 28th March so hope you'll be able to fit a tasting in with us on that day. We've started sounding people out and have got quite a bit of interest so it would be great to see you.

I am thoroughly enjoying this Ocaso Syrah - In fact every sip I take leaves me wanting more and more! It has a gorgeous deep ruby colour and a good nose with hints of chocolate and spice. It’s a smooth, well balanced wine packed with dark cherry like fruity flavours. I'm already looking forward to another glass tomorrow evening (if I don't end up finishing the bottle tonight that is). This wine is great valve for money - If you haven't tried it, include a bottle in your next case.... you won't be disappointed!

Oh Dear, I saw Strione get "slagged off", ouch! When reading the review i wonder if the wine was corked. Can one exchange corked bottles?

Wines like songs......so unusual and delightful are the wines from Gerardo in particular that I am thinking of maybe comparing them to songs in a bid to give you an idea of taste when more than words are needed - music might be the answer! Let me know what you think!

Went very well with slow roasted shoulder of Lamb...best decant before pouring or alternatively pour carefully don't drink the last 1/2 inch in the bottle as it seems to throw a small amount of sediment. Will be ordering more (the Toplis seal of approval!)

Falanghina Strione 2007

The pinnacle of what can be achieved with Falanghina, Naples own white grape variety and probably its most ancient expression, due to the fact that the wine is fermented on the skins, just like a red wine. From a low yielding vineyard on the lsopes of the Astroni crater in Naples proper, the juice and grape skins are fermented together in large oak cask, with frequent stirring of the lees, this is an opulent, but well structured wine with loads of white fruits and grapefruit skin notes. A full bodied wine with apricot and peach fruit and finely chisseled acidty, with a finish that goes on and on. ABC (anything but chardonnay)!

NOW: £11.99

Falanghina Colle Imperatrice 2008

Overall Rating: 4 Stars

a step up on the Falanghina ladder, this wine comes from a single vineyard. Low yields and a slow fermentation in steel and large oak vats have resulted in a full-bodied, well structured wine showing opulent white fruits and fine chisseled acidity on a creamy palate. The finish goes on and on. Great with fish based pasta dishes (gnocchi with shrimps for example!) but goes equally well with chicken in cream sauce (cock au riesling, but this time with Falanghina) and veal. And very good value for money!

NOW: £8.49

Falanghina Falangos 2007

And now for something completely different: a crisp white wine with a creamy edge and bursting with white fruit and pink grape fruit from the volcanic slopes of Naples' suburbs. Made from the indigenous Falanghina, this wine is the so called entry level, but with bags of personality for the price!

Lacryma Christi Bianco 2008

Overall Rating: 3.5 Stars

My Rating: 5 Stars

Lacryma Christi, meaning "tear of God" is an ancient wine from the area around Naples. According to myth God one day recognized in the gulf of Naples an edge of sky removed by Lucifer. He cried and where the divine tears fell so rose the vines of the Lacryma Christi. The wine itself is a much more earthly pleasures and comes in a white and rosato version. This white wine is a skilful blend of Falanghina (there it is again!) with Caprettone, another very old grape from this region. The wine shows rich fruit pierced through by lemony acidity and with cut lemon and grapefruit flavours on the palate. A very original and accessible style bound to make lots of friends.

Everything you always wanted to know about wine...but were afraid to ask

Hi there! I set up this group as a platform for asking and answering questions about anything vinous. I don't think you need to know the nitty gritty to love wine and enjoy drinking it, but sometimes questions just pop up, especially about what's on the label.I would love to hear from you and get your questions/answers and feedback!

Hi, my name is Walter and until recently I was the sommelier at Le Pont de la Tour

I see so many delicious wines that are not imported to the UK, I wanted to do something about it. So I approached Rowan at Naked Wines, and asked him to bring them in, so that I could share them with my friends and clients

And here they are...sensational wines, selected by me, from far, far off the beaten track, and never before available in the UK

Thanks for joining!

BTW: on the pic to my left is Giulio Gambelli, one of my heroes, a wine consultant who has done more than 50 vintages and has always campaigned for Sangiovese, one of my favourite grapes

Let's talk Italian - my favourite language. Particularly focussing on the South.....I am from Torre Annunziata near Naples and enjoy the subtle to vast differences in the taste of wines from those produced near and around the rich soils of Vesuvius to further into the mountainous areas like Avellino.
