Hi there,

I'm Thomas Hordern and I have taken over the winemaking responsibilities at DAquino Wines in the Upper Hunter Valley. As the company continues to grow Rex is stretched like a rubber band, thus he is needed on many fronts. He is still buzzing around the crusher, fermenting wines, tanks and barrels but I'm running the winery.

We are in the middle of vintage at the moment and I'm "up to my back teeth" in grapes and tanks of fermenting wine. The days are long with the winery running an 18 hour day....the pressure is on!! This year the fruit is looking very good and to date I'm very pleased with the progress and the quality of the ferments.

I'm coming over to the UK for the Naked Wines Tasting Tour in June/July and look forward to seeing you at the tasting table to try our fabulous wines and talk wine. Don't mind talkin' rugby or cricket too!!

See ya in June...Thomas

Today weīve been tasting the wines of the vintage 2010 that have been almost 12 months in oak. Thatīs very useful to choose the barrels for the next year: what are the best cooperages and what kinds of toasting fit better with our wines. You can see a picture in our facebook.

Burgo Viejo Crianza 2007 has been review by Decanter as one of the best Rioja of that vintage. Our wine has been reviewed as "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED" with 4 stars and as one ofe the best values under 13 pounds. You can see the review in March 2012 issue of the magazine (pages 101-102).

Itīs normal that after Christmas itīs a quiter time in the wineries. Not this year: weīre really busy bottleling, racking and filling barrels. Concerning the quality of the vintage, now we can have a better perspective: the wines of 2011 are going to be very aromatic, quite structured but with ripe tannins. The analysis of colour give as result that in average the colour of our wines is even higher than in 2010 -the best vintage ever in Rioja-. I have great expectations!
