Hi!
I just returned from spending a few days in northern Spain, and I would like to share with you my experience of visiting Bodegas Ramon Bilbao.
I could say that Ramon Bilbao’s wines can be compared to the treatment I received when visiting their premises: great quality, envolving, warm, memorable experience.
Although arriving rather later than my appointment (Haro is a small town, but with so many bodegas it took me a while to find Ramon Bilbao’s), Penelope Lopez was waiting for us and she dedicated a lot of time to show us around the premises.
The cellars and installations are amazing, not only for its size but for how modern they are. They produce a good range of wines, of which a selection can be found in Naked Wines.
I must say that two of their stars, Mirto ( a well known prize winner), and Vina Turzaballa (an amazing wine, kept 40 months in American oak barrels and another 40 months in bottle, yes that is around 8 years!) are not yet in NW list, but hopefully we may be able to convince Rowan that there is enough demand for a bit more expensive wines.
I was glad to see the various 40.000 kilos grape deposits, as well as to visit the cellar with over one million bottles of their different wines, impressive as it is their bottling and packing facilities.
I was finally taken to one of their meeting rooms, where I tried some of their wines. Unfortunately I missed Rodolfo by a few minutes, by may be next I will be able to have a word with him.
Meanwhile big recommendation to try Hacienda Don Ramon wines, relax, and enjoy!
Alfredo
