Castillo Catadau Gran Reserva 2002
by Jorge Caus-Pertegaz

Castillo Catadau Gran Reserva 2002
  • Drink Gran Reserva quality, and 7 years of ageing, for the price of a basic Rioja!
  • Gran Reserva means that the wine is made from the best grapes, aged in oak, aged in bottle and then only released when ready to drink
  • Expect it to be soft and mellow...all the rough stuff has been aged out of the wine years ago

I'd read mixed review about this one. However, it did not disappoint. So much so I bought some more! Very drinkable indeed!

OK, here's my first critique on NW. Trying to be positive, this wine was very delicate, soft and easy drinking. I disliked it. The reason being that it had no depth to it whatsoever, and I had to wring its neck to glean any flavour from it. I've had Beaujolais Nouveau with more guts. It was not what I was expecting at all. For an aged wine, it was soft with no tannin aftertaste, but I wouldn't buy this again or recommend it. I still have two bottles to get through, oh dear....
